The Value of Independent Analysts

Each Alliance member is, in fact, an analyst of the company they work for and the marketplace their company faces. Their opinions and insight are not about market trends, but sales, technology, business models, business successes and failures. Their independence is unique and is an irreplaceable component to any mix of research and data used to buy and sell stocks.

This independence is matched by the work done for the CW Insight done by Toby Smith, Michael Shulman and Dr Paul Carton. Mr. Smith is a best-selling, nationally recognized author of "ChangeWave Investing" and the "ChangeWave Investment Newsletter" and is a regular on Fox Television. Mr. Shulman has twenty years experience inside the IT and related industries and has published numerous articles on technology trends and adoption by businesses and consumers. Dr. Carton has more than twenty years experience in business and political polling and surveys.

Michael Shulman, Managing Director of Research

Michael Shulman is currently the Managing Director of Research for ChangeWave Investment Research LLC. Michael joined ChangeWave after having spent twenty years in various high tech industries. Prior to joining ChangeWave, Michael was the CEO of AtYourBusiness.com, now Primewire, a benefits administration Application Service Provider he founded in 1998.

Michael began his career doing in-depth company and market analysis for a variety of companies, building databases and simulation models to estimate the success of various technologies across a wide range of market segments. He moved "inside" the high tech community as a manager at high-tech companies including AT&T;, Michael was an early private investor in several Internet start-ups, notably XOOM.com (went public in 1998 and was bought by NBC in 1999) and brings a unique perspective as a combination of technologist, investor and financial analyst to the ChangeWave research effort.

Michael currently sits on the Executive Board of NextGen Capital, a venture fund based in Fairfax, Virginia, Chairman and Board member of Primewire, and sits on the Advisory Boards of Sandbox.com and Brainbench. Michael began work for Phillips Puiblishing, performing independent research and financial analysis for several publications. He has published in a variety of trade and general business publications, including CD-ROM Today, Worth Online, The Motley Fool, Bonjour Paris and The Los Angeles Times.

Paul Carton, Ph.D., Executive Director, ChangeWave Alliance

Paul Carton has an extensive background in Internet survey research and the development of Internet research communities, as well as in strategic planning, policy analysis and research management. Prior to joining ChangeWave in 2000, he worked at Research and Management Systems, Inc. as its Chief Planning and Business Development Officer, where he developed leading edge Internet products and services for research and education. During the 1990's, Dr. Carton also established a consultancy business, providing Internet strategic planning, business development, market research, and communications consulting. In the 1980's, he worked as a survey researcher and political consultant for the Boston-based firm of Marttila and Kiley, Inc., conducting attitudinal surveys for gubernatorial, senatorial, and mayoral campaigns; organizing national and international direct mail and field operations; and developing multi-media advertising campaigns. Dr. Carton's research has been published in a wide range of journals and publications including Nieman Reports (Cambridge, Massachusetts: The Nieman Foundation at Harvard University), Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies (Washington, DC), and Future Choices, (Washington, DC: Youth Policy Institute). He holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology, a Masters degree in Social Sciences, and a Ph.D. in Policy Analysis from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Tobin Smith, Editor and Founder, ChangeWave Investing

Tobin Smith is the founder of ChangeWave Research. He serves as editor of ChangeWave Investing, a growth-stock investing newsletter and ChangeWave ProTrader, a short-term trading advisory newsletter. Mr. Smith is Chairman of ChangeWave Capital Partners LP, a private hedge fund. He as authored the bestsellers, ChangeWave Investing and ChangeWave Investing 2.0. Mr. Smith serves as a contributing market analyst for the FOX News Channel and co-stars on their weekly Bulls & Bears television program. He is a frequent guest expert on Your World With Neil Cavuto, CNNfn, Bloomberg TV, CBS Radio, Yahoo! Finance channel, Red Herring magazine, and other leading media outlets.

Bryan Perry, Analyst and Editor, ChangeWave ProTrader

Bryan Perry is currently Editor and Head Trader for the ChangeWave ProTrader. Prior to launching this service Bryan was Editor for the Internet Investing Daily newsletter before merging with ChangeWave Investment Research in January of 2001 where he now holds the title of Stocks Editor.

After graduating from Virginia Tech in 1982, Bryan went to work for Smith Barney in Washington, D.C. in late 1983. He has 18 years experience working as a financial advisor for major Wall Street firms like Bear Stearns, Paine Webber and Lehman Brothers. In 1999, Bryan started his own investment management company, Alexander Perry Corp.

Bryan has co-hosted a weekly financial news show on the Bloomberg affiliate radio network from 1997-1999 and continues to participate as a guest speaker at numerous investment forums and regional money shows around the nation.

Joshua Z. Levine, Analyst and Editor

Joshua Z. Levine, an entrepreneur and analyst with a broad vision that originates from examination of critical issues in the economic, social, political, technological spheres. In addition to founding Next Wave Stocks his experience includes creating the Next Wave 100, the first and only small/mid-cap technology stock index, and developing Technodynamic Investing, a proprietary methodology for analyzing and valuing technology stocks. Mr. Levine previously headed a strategic communications firm that specialized in tech-driven companies. As an investment banker he analyzed venture-stage technology companies and played a role in several phases of public and private equity offerings. He has also launched three business newsletters and written numerous articles on finance and technology.

David Durham, Sr. Vice President

David Durham has more than twenty years of direct marketing experience with Phillips International. Mr. Durham has built multiple start-up business units within Phillips in the consumer and B2B markets. From 1996 to 1999, he was Group Publisher for the Mutual Fund Group, building the business from revenues of $4 million to revenues of $20 million. From 1989 to 1996, Mr. Durham was Group Publisher for the Magazine Group at Phillips Business Information ("PBI"). During his tenure at PBI, he launched Phillips' magazine unit and built the unit into a $30 million business which included the publication of 10 magazines and 2 major conference exhibitions. From 1986 to 1989, Mr. Durham assumed overall responsibility as Group Publisher for the Telecom Group within Phillips and oversaw the operations of 12 newsletters, 5 directories, technology research reports and marketplace studies as well as 2 conferences.
