Wireless Service Provider Trends
Will Shared Family Data Plans be the Next Big Thing for Wireless?

April 12, 2012

After a wild year that included a new iPhone release, the failed AT&T;/T-Mobile merger, and a major build-out of 4G LTE networks, it's been a relatively quiet quarter for the wireless industry, according to the latest ChangeWave survey.

But there's a major issue on the horizon that has the potential to shake things up: Consumer interest in shared family data plans.

Will a family option for shared data usage (similar to how voice minutes are shared) become a huge game changer for the wireless industry? The March 20-26 survey of 4,413 consumers looked at the growing consumer interest in such an option, along with customer attitudes toward their wireless service providers. ChangeWave Research is a service of 451 Research.
