May Consumer Spending Report
Spending Continues to Pick Up in May – Consumer Expectations and Confidence Also Improve

ChangeWave’s previous three monthly surveys picked up improvements in U.S. consumer spending, and our latest survey shows another uptick for May. ChangeWave Research is a service of 451 Research.

Importantly, the survey of 2,252 U.S. consumers – completed May 16 – shows the best overall spending environment in the past year, along with a modest uptick in expectations and confidence. We’re also seeing improvements for several categories, including travel/vacation, durable goods and consumer electronics.

Among retailers, Amazon is best positioned to outperform on the home entertainment front, while spending intentions for most other major retailers are holding steady this month.
