Smart Homes Capturing Consumer Attention

The smart home market features a range of interconnected devices and services that enable consumers to automate and control everyday household functions such as temperature, lighting, and security systems. To measure the appeal of smart home technologies, we asked respondents how interested they are in using home automation devices and services. An exceptionally high one-in-two (50%) say they’re Very (14%) or Somewhat Interested (36%).

Interest in New Wireless Offers

We asked respondents about several types of wireless promotions to find out which ones they find most attractive. The highest level of interest is in Trying Out a New Smart Phone with the Option to Return it if Unsatisfied, with 59% of respondents interested in this type of offer.

Customer Willingness to Spend

In the latest Business Trends survey, we asked respondents to rate the current willingness of their existing customers to spend money on their company’s products and services. A total of 46% report their customers have a Green Light to spend (i.e., spending is normal) – unchanged from the previous quarter.

Promotions Consumers are Interested In

We recently asked consumers about promotional offers they’re interested in receiving from their TV service providers. Half of respondents chose No Equipment Rental Fees (50%) as the single most enticing option – a sign that the fees charged for set-top boxes, routers, etc. are a pain point for consumers.

Most Important Smart Watch Features

We asked consumers interested in buying a smart watch about the features most important to them in deciding which device to purchase. Extension of Current Phone (68%) ranks first, closely followed by Compatibility with Other Devices(63%), Cost (60%), and Long Battery Life (60%). Other important factors include Size/Portability (56%) and Wireless Connectivity (55%).
