January U.S. Consumer Spending Report
Spending Growth Slows even as Consumer Confidence Leaps; Amazon Kindle Fire Owners Survey Shows Continuing Momentum

January 18, 2012

A January ChangeWave survey of 2,607 U.S. consumers shows spending growth is lower this month after the seasonal uptick registered in December – but consumer confidence and expectations have leaped. ChangeWave Research is a service of 451 Research.

The January 3-16, 2012 survey is also registering a small spending uptick for Household Repairs/ Improvements, even as overall Consumer Electronics spending slows. But there are few signs of momentum within other categories.

There are two big winners in holiday electronics spending who continue to outperform going forward. In this survey report, ChangeWave also takes a close-up look at one of the key factors underlying Amazon's recent momentum – the new Kindle Fire tablet.
